Andrew Magee

Dr Andrew Magee is a climate risk and resilience practitioner with extensive experience supporting infrastructure, development, policy and operational decision-making across the Pacific. He is Technical Director – Climate Risk and Resilience and Asia-Pacific Lead at JBA Global Resilience, where he leads multidisciplinary assignments that translate climate and disaster risk information into practical adaptation pathways, design inputs, investment priorities and implementation guidance.

Andrew holds a PhD in Climate Science, providing a strong technical foundation for his work. His principal expertise lies in applying climate information in practice, working with governments, development partners, engineers, technical agencies and communities to identify material risks, assess vulnerability, strengthen climate services and prioritise realistic resilience actions.

His recent and current experience includes:
- leading climate and disaster risk assessments for transport, energy, health, water, agriculture and coastal infrastructure across Pacific Island countries;
- developing and applying climate services, seasonal forecasting information, climate variability analysis and longer-term projections to support early warning, preparedness, water security, agriculture and infrastructure planning;
- developing practical climate risk and vulnerability assessment frameworks, tools and guidance for Pacific infrastructure investments;
- translating climate information into thresholds, triggers, design parameters, adaptation measures, monitoring arrangements and decision-ready recommendations; and
- supporting institutional strengthening, stakeholder engagement and the integration of climate and disaster risk information into policies, programmes and investment decisions.

Andrew has served on the Australia Pacific Climate Partnership Expert Panel for Climate Science and currently sits on the Climate Resilient Communities Expert Panel for Climate and Disaster Risk Reduction. Through these roles, he has provided practical advice on climate services, climate-resilient development, infrastructure planning and disaster risk reduction across the Pacific.

He has worked extensively across the Pacific, including Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Cook Islands, Niue, Marshall Islands, Palau, Federated States of Micronesia, Nauru and Timor-Leste. He has delivered assignments for organisations including the Asian Development Bank, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australia Pacific Climate Partnership and the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific.
